Happy New Year Everyone!!
hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!
I did…. and I’m looking forward to a bright New Year (good-bye 2020)!!
I just want to provide a brief update before the year’s end.
East Side Relief Sewer (ESRS)
The Phases 1C and 1C Trenchless are both complete. There may be some re-seeding needed in the Spring, but beyond that, both projects are done and we’ve picked up the first point of connection to the new relief sewer (means wet weather flows can make it to the sewer treatment plant). This is a small pickup point, but it means we’re making progress towards the ultimate goal of getting this relief sewer down to the Eastern Heights area.
For 2021: Design for the next phase 1D of the relief sewer will commence with the goal of bidding out the next phase in late Fall 2021.
For 2022: Construction of Phase 1D begins and extends the relief sewer west on Poplar towards Gulf Road.
I anticipate more information being disseminated in late 2021 regarding the next phase (maybe a public meeting)…..so Stay Tuned!
IN OTHER NEWS
Most projects have been completed with the exception of the West River Watermain and Sewer Improvement Project. This project continues (on break during the holidays but will pick up where they left off next week).
PSA for the Day
I included this PSA back in May, but it’s worth posting again!
(last rant of the year)
“I want to remind folks one more time…FLUSHABLE WIPES ARE NOT FLUSHABLE. Now, you may ask why would I say that when the label on the package says ”Flushable”. Well, they will go down the toilet, but so will a sock and so will a face mask. We don’t (or shouldn’t) flush those items down the toilet…we shouldn’t flush wipes down the toilet either. Here’s why: Last week, our office received a call from a property owner who said that she had 3 plumbers try to unplug her lateral. (I said this email would be brief so I won’t go into specifics which would probably take another 5,000 words (at least)).
The plumber stated that when he jetted the lateral, all he brought back was muck and WIPES!!!!!......WIPES!!!!! Save yourself and your wallet time and aggravation and DO NOT FLUSH WIPES!!”
I re-posted this PSA because the weekend before Christmas, our Wastewater Crew was called for a plugged lateral. A plumber was called to clean the lateral, but it didn’t help much (because the plumber got his jet stuck), but anyways after investigating and getting the sewer crew to jet the sewer, they found a big wad of wipes (Great Job Crew!). Now, this is a new sewer (one of the new subdivisions), and there are only about a dozen homes on the upstream side of this wad of wipes. Each of the dozen residents were hand delivered a notice about not flushing wipes, and all other residents in the subdivision were mailed a notice also. Hopefully, this incident is not repeated! We cannot emphasize enough that WIPES do not belong in the toilet.
That’s it for today.
I wish everyone a Very Happy New Year!
I hope that you will have many blessings in 2021!
And as always, PLEASE DRIVE SAFELY!
