Tips for selling at the Market:
-Stand up and engage your customers- Say Good Morning, invite them over to your booth to see your product(s).
- Dress to sell (dress appropriately)
-The more information the better. Examples: Let customers know that your prices are the bare minimum, how your product is made; Have photos of how you make your product, photos of your garden/farm etc.
-Give samples if possible- people love to try things out
- Eat your own food/ have on what you are selling etc.
-Give customers personal opinions: Examples: this is my favorite apple for baking, this is my favorite scented candle etc.
- Make bags readily available.
- Make suggestions if not interested for themselves; example: Maybe someone in your family, or a friend would love to get this as a present
- Explain the uniqueness of the product; example these are one of a kind/ handmade, fruits and vegetables- these are only available "fresh" this time of year etc.
- Cultivate regular, loyal customers-let them know when you'll be a the market, get to know their name(s); if you make or have something they want and don't have it there this week let them know when you'll have it in the future; example: strawberries aren't ripe yet but we should have them next week; I sold out of ________ but I'll have some here next week so come early.
-Marketing: That means better signs, nicer and faster people serving customers, a better display, more recipes/ samples.
Remember the 3 Ps of selling:
Product: what you sell
Program: why they should buy this product; Uniqueness- You'll only find this here; handmade by me, my recipe, freshness (came right out of the ground to the market) etc.
